On April 12, 2009 at the General Meeting of members of the Russian Chapter of the Nigerians In Diaspora Organization, held at the premises of the Embassy of Nigeria in Moscow, the candidacy of Dr. Bashir Obasekola as the new Chairman of the organization was unanimously approved by the General House, the highest organ of the organization, in accordance with the current guidelines of the organization.
Dr. Ayo Ojajune had to relieve the post of the NIDOE-Russia’s Chairmanship as required by the rules of the Mother-Organization (Nigerians In Diaspora Organization Europe), having been recently appointed into the Board of Trustees of NIDO-Europe.
While presenting the candidacy of Dr. Obasekola on behalf of the members of the Interim Administration of NIDO-Russia for the General House’s approval, Dr. Ayo Ojajune described Dr. Obasekola as an experienced professional, patriotic, dedicated and efficient person. An example being his significant and appreciable role played over the years for the Nigerian Community Russia, where he was the President-General for many years. Dr. Ojajune also highlighted the fact that Dr. Obasekola was one of the early pioneers of the organization here in Russia and that he is acquainted with how NIDO-Europe operates and well known to most of the members of the Board of Trustees, which will make him easily find his ground amongst other highly respectable Chairs of other Chapters and the Board of Trustees of the NIDOE.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Bashir Obasekola said he was highly humbled to be called again to serve Nigeria and Nigerians. He therefore thanked all the members for such unanimity on his Chairmanship and for the profound trust. He, however, said that he can’t do much without the anticipated cooperation and dedication of all the members, and especially the Executive members of the organization. ‘In the pursuance of Nigeria national development, all hands must be on deck’, he concluded.
During the General Meeting, NIDO-Russia’s Administration was further consolidated with the appointed of Dr. Cyril Ohiara, Mr. Patrick Egwakhide, Dr Abayomi Samuel and Engr. Yusuf Isa. These four newly Executive members hereby complement Engr. Frank Ibeme, Mr. Rex Essenowo and Arch. Olayinka Emmanuel Olatoye who had earlier been appointed into the Interim Administration.
